The lamps used for down lights are of 3 main types:

1. Low voltage halogen lamps, that provide a whiter crisper light and last up to 6000 hours.
2. 240 volt halogen lamps, that provide a slightly warmer coloured light and last up to 2000 hours.
3. Incandescent lamps, usually R80 reflector lamps that provide a warm coloured light and last up to 1000 hours.
